FEATURED ARTIST:

Wade McCarren

Primitives by Wade

Woodcarving is one of the oldest arts of humankind. A manipulation of a jagged form into something that is beautifully unexpected. A simple piece of wood serves as a canvas for artists to express their political views and entertain us through an expression of their raw imaginations. Folk artists embrace this craft, and anchor us to our heritage by preserving our cultural traditions.

The folk art tradition developed rapidly in the United States in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, as the country recovered from the impact of the Revolutionary War. During this period, European settlers began to revive the artistic traditions of their home countries. Practices such as quilting and whittling, handed down from one generation to the next, became commonplace and ran counter to the refined artistic traditions of the day.

When we discovered Wade’s incredible folk art carvings, we instantly knew we needed to celebrate his talent. Wade has been carving for over twenty-five years and is a master of the craft. Starting with a simple sketch and a piece of basswood, Wade carefully shapes the superfluous material until his creation escapes from the block of wood. His wife, Carolou, then takes over and lovingly paints each piece, giving it a unique touch and bringing it to life.

Both Wade and Carolou are retired educators and graduates of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

Proudly crafted in the USA!

Proceeds from the event go directly to supporting the KENTUCKY SHAKESPEARE.

Old Forester

In 1870, George Garvin Brown created Old Forester on Louisville’s famous Whiskey Row. Old Forester was America’s First Bottled Bourbon – the first bourbon to be sold in sealed glass bottles instead of barrels, to ensure consistent quality. Old Forester is also the only remaining bourbon brand continuously sold by the same company before, during and after Prohibition, thanks to a medicinal distilling license granted by the US government during Prohibition. Today, the Old Forester brand and its many expressions are prized by bartenders and consumers alike for their authentic bourbon taste.
